Partitioning is the database process where very large tables are divided into multiple smaller parts. By splitting a large table into smaller tables, queries that access only a portion of the data can run quicker because there is lesser data to scan. The main objective of partitioning is to aid in the maintenance of large tables and to reduce the overall response time to read and load data for particular SQL queries. This lab is divided into three exercises. In the first exercise, we will learn to create a partition. In the second exercise we will learn to manage partitions and in the third exercise, we will know, how partitioning optimizes query performance.
